Domestic Wines

Duckhorn 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

This wine has a classic Cabernet aroma of cassis, black olive, cherry and tea. A perceived sweetness is apparent on entry and develops into flavors of plum, blackberry, toasted oak, pepper, and bittersweet chocolate. The layered tannins are soft and gracefully integrated with the fruit. Ready to drink upon release, this wine will age well for the next 15 years.

Justin 2004 Isosceles

Brilliant ruby color with garnet hues. Layers upon layers of aromas appear as this wine evolves in the glass. Toasted oak, pencil lead, and caramel combine with cherry, black currant and earthy components on the nose. A delicate, soft entry is complimented by raspberry, strawberry and black currant. Cedar and spice appear after the fruit components and are quickly followed by a delicate balance of acidity and medium bodied tannins. On the finish, the wine leaves a lasting impression of toasted aok, strawberry, raspberry, black currant and blackberry.

Rubissow-Sargent 2002 Merlot

Merlot for Cab drinkers. Born of rugged hillside fruit, the racy flavors of plum, red cherry, and cedar are distinctively Cab-like. The nose offers nice aromas of plums, mint, and spice. Sure Sideways was funny, but Merlot is here to stay and this old-world style vintage says so in every sip.

Kenneth-Crawford 2005 Babcock Pinot Noir

Dark ruby in color, dark fruit and black cherry vie for attention with Asian spices and that tell tale Santa Rita Hills earthy, peppery, slate character. The aromas from the glass are confirmed on the palate and are wrapped neatly in a rich but mouthwatering blanket of sweet fruit and well-balanced acid. Fine tannins keep the finish long and firm enough to ensure 5-7 years of aging potential.

Garretson 2003 Syrah, The Bulladoir (1 bo

Brooding and black in color, the wine offers up intense aromatics of pomegranite, coffee, mocha, lavender and blackberry. On the palate it's full bodied, with a great midpalate that exhibits dark cherry, cola and toffee. Great structure, fine-grained tannins and good acidity on the finish.
My personal favorite of the three "Bulladóir" bottlings we've produced to date. While definitely a rich, full-throttle beast, this wine exhibits remarkable structure and balance. Hard to resist now, it will benefit from an additional year or two of aging and drink nicely for years to come.

$64.00

Garretson 2001 Syrah, The Luascain

While last year's debut bottling of this Syrah was an enormous success, I honestly believe this is an even better wine.  A deep, dark, brooding color leads to aromas of stone fruits, plum, violet, anise and a touch of turned earth. On the palate, this wine explodes with rich cherry, blueberry and mocha, with great acidity and length of finish. “Luascáin” is the Gaelic word for rocking horse, another name for this vineyard.

$45.00

JC Cellars 2003 Syrah, Caldwell

Another classic in the making. This is actually my favorite Caldwell Vineyard so far. I think it's Syrah purity and the roasted herbs de Provence / blackberry / raspberry combination in the aromatics and flavors that are so exotic and incredibly layered that it's hard to resist.

Kenneth-Crawford 2004 Purisima Syrah

$40.00

Ojai 2003 Syrah, Bien Nacido

The Bien Nacido is one of the wines I most enjoy making. Never straight forwardly fruity, this wine has some of the spicy complexity that I find so compelling in the famous northern Rhone appellation of Cote Rotie. I know I am completely out of sync with much of the wine world on this one, as it seems as though ready-to-drink, hot-climate Australian shiraz fruit bombs are all the rage. But with proper patience, I think you will find this wine very rewarding.

$37.00

Ojai 2003 Syrah, Stolpman Vineyard

Well structured, somewhat tannic, mineral/scorched earth-dominated, exhibiting blackberry, cassis, black cherry, chocolate, and mocha characteristics. Full-bodied with loads of richness, intensity, and a stunning finish.

Ojai 1999 Stolpman Syrah

$68.00

Ojai 2001 Syrah, Thompson Vineyard

Lovers of Syrah's meaty character should check out this Syrah. Aromas of creme de cassis, melted licorice, BBQ spices, roasted meat juices, and subtle herbs soar from the glass of this dense, full-bodied, multidimensional Syrah.

$55.00

Owen Roe 2005 Ex Umbris Syrah

$24.00

Pax 2005 Cuvee Christine Syrah

Blackberry pie, summer fruit compote, wood-smoke, fresh espresso, and pepper lurk in the thick aromas of this wine. In the mouth, supple, but intense fruits, spices, and crushed stone flavors lead into a rich mid-palate of sweet black and blue fruit pie. The finish is quite long, and extended by ripe tannins that give this monstrous Syrah a pleasingly clean finish.

$77.00

Presidio 2004 "Artistic License" Syrah, Estate

Certified Organic and Biodynamically grown grapes from our cool climate estate vineyard west of the Santa Rita Hills. This dark Syrah offers meaty, spicy, plum aromas with strong cracked pepper and sausage aromatics.
